■ About the Exhibition
Presented by the Asian Society of Calligraphic Arts (ASCA), "New Horizons in East Asian Calligraphy" is an exhibition that honors the depth of traditional East Asian calligraphy while opening new artistic frontiers with contemporary sensibility.
Sixteen distinguished artists present approximately 70 works spanning Chinese character calligraphy, Korean script calligraphy, literati painting, Zen ink painting, and modern calligraphy.
The exhibition is organized into two sections:
▸ Part I — Masters' Ink, Echoes of Tradition
Featuring a solo exhibition by Master Anam Bae Ok-young, alongside special presentations by Honorary Chairman Seonggok Lim Hyun-gi, Senior Advisor Hoam Lim Guk-hwan, and Advisor Junggwan Hwang Jae-guk. Invited artists Hyejeon Kim Jeong-rye, Seocheon Kim Jeong-hui, Seokdang Son Yun-gi, Hyocheon Lim Sang-suk, guest association artist Haeam Kim In-jae, and member artist Junghwan Son Jin-myeong showcase the profound depth and refinement of traditional calligraphy.
▸ Part II — Tradition Reimagined, Future Created
Invited artists Huirang Gong Gyeong-sun, Sodam Kim Hye-ran, Jinho So Jeong-a, Cheongsun Jang Gi-yeong, guest association artist Ujeong Min Ji-hyeon, and member artist Hongwon Son Ji-yeong present bold new possibilities rooted in tradition, each unfolding their unique artistic vision.
Encompassing diverse scripts — seal, clerical, regular, running, cursive, archaic, palace, and flowing styles — as well as literati and Zen ink painting, this exhibition offers a meaningful opportunity to experience the past, present, and future of East Asian calligraphy in one place.
Second and third level of four-level building with three exhibition halls
Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum, which opened in 1988, is the world’s first-ever exhibition venue dedicated to calligraphy. Traditional works as well as contemporary works are continuously presented in 3 exhibition halls. The oriental atmosphere of the calligraphy art museum is the only one in the world which preserves the culture of the Chinese characters, and thus has been drawing many foreign visitors. There is also a calligraphy education academy which is open to the general public.
