Hyounglok Choi, Piano

Highly praised by both jurors and audiences alike, South Korean pianist Hyounglok Choi has garnered an impressive list of international competition successes. His most recent success was in the 7th Sendai International Music Competition in Japan, where he won first prize and received numerous concert engagements. Previous successes include the finalist at the 61th Ferrucio Busoni International Piano Competition and third prize in the 3rd Asia-Pacific International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Daegu.
In addition, he has won many prestigious national prizes, including first Prize in the 2013 Joongang Music Concours, second Prize in the Korea Herald Music Competition, third Prize in the Hanguk-ilbo Music Competition and 1st Prize in the Suri Music Concours.
Gaining international recognition at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, he has performed solo recitals and chamber music at venues such as Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Concert Hall, Tokyo Hamarikyu Asahi Hall, Hitachi System Hall in Sendai (Japan), Seoul Arts Center, Seongnam TLi Art Center, Kyemyung Art Center, Seoul National University Concert Hall (Korea), Maiori – Salone degli Affreschi, Palazzo Mezzacapo (Italy) and Naple – Sala del Vasari, Chiesa di S. Anna dei Lombardi (Italy).
He has since been involved in building an international career, had played as a soloist with many other orchestras including the Japan Philharmonic, Sendai Philharmonic (with Maestro Hirokami Junichi), Gangnam Symphony (With Maestro. Chi-yong Chung), Prime Philharmonic, SNU(Seoul National University) String Ensemble, Kyoung-buk Provincial Orchestra (with Maestro. Antoni Wit) and Suzhou Symphony.
Mr. Choi was chosen one of the Korean Young Pianist Series at the Myeongdong Cathedral Familia Chapel in Korea by an art director Yekwon Sunwoo(Winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition 2017) and he successfully finished giving a nationwide recital tour in Japan in 2020 and released him debut CD in Japan featuring works by Chopin and Ravel.
He began learning piano at the age of seven. He studied in Seoul Arts High School and graduated from these school with an excellent record. He studied with Prof. Hee Sung Joo and graduated as a cum laude from Seoul National University. He studied with Prof. Pavel Gililov at University Mozarteum Salzburg, Austria and Prof. Arnulf von Arnim at Musikhochschule Muenster, Germany.
