PROFILE
"Small in stature, but a giant in voice" – The New York Times
Loved by Bayreuth, and regarded as one of the greatest living basses, Kwangchul Youn was born in Chungju, South Korea. He won numerous vocal competitions both in Korea and abroad. In 1990, he studied under Professor Reza Koleva at the Sofia Conservatory in Bulgaria, and from 1991 to 1993, he continued his studies with Professor Herbert Brauer at the Berlin University of the Arts. His international breakthrough came in 1993, when he won the Placido Domingo International Vocal Competition in Paris.
During the 1993–94 season, he performed as a soloist with the Leipzig National Opera, and from 1994 to 2004, he was a soloist with the Berlin State Opera. His repertoire included over 700 performances in a wide range of operas such as Mozart's The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro; Rossini's The Barber of Seville; Bellini's Norma; Verdi's Don Carlo, Aida, Macbeth, Rigoletto, La forza del destino, Otello; Wagner's Tannhäuser, Tristan und Isolde, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Der fliegende Holländer, Parsifal; as well as works by Alban Berg (Wozzeck), Debussy (Pelléas et Mélisande), and Meyerbeer (Robert le diable).
In 1996, at the suggestion of conductor Daniel Barenboim, with whom he worked at the Berlin State Opera, Youn made his debut at the world-renowned Bayreuth Festival. There, he performed in over 150 productions of Wagner operas and became a beloved figure among Wagnerians.
Also a master of the German art song (Lied), Youn was awarded the prestigious title of Kammersänger (Court Singer) by the Berlin State Opera in 2018. He continues to perform at leading opera houses around the world, including the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House in London, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Opéra Bastille in Paris, and opera houses in Madrid, Munich, Hamburg, and Buenos Aires. He has worked with world-renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, and Myung-Whun Chung.

Praised by pianist Emmanuel Ax as a performer who "expresses meticulous technique with magical color," pianist Eunsik Park has once again garnered acclaim from audiences and critics alike through his recent release of the complete Chopin Nocturnes, recognized for its distinctive tone and solid musical structure.
He has performed on major stages and broadcasts both in Korea and internationally, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Seoul Arts Center, and Lotte Concert Hall. Park graduated at the top of his class in piano performance from Seoul National University. He later pursued further studies in the U.S. at Indiana University, where he trained for an extended period under the legendary pianist Menahem Pressler, inheriting his pianistic philosophy.
