DMAU Project KNCDC <Init: unseen>
Something unseen, yet more significant. Init: unseen explores the essence of the unique body and dance. Rooted in the paradoxical concepts of ‘complexity within simplicity,’ ‘depth in repetition’ and ‘the coexistence of the unconscious and conscious,’ the work presents a dance that transcends the boundaries between unconscious and conscious, introducing a new form of dance. As the dancers’ movements harmoniously merge with the stage, the audience will perceive the ‘unseen’ through everything that is ‘seen.’
Init: unseen is part of the KNCDC’s DMAU(Dance Makes Asia become the Universe) project, created with the vision of increasing Asian dance exchanges and leading global contemporary dance. Asia’s most skilled dancers actively take on roles as creators and ‘processors,’ expressing a range of viewpoints and interpretations through movement. Whereas last year’s premiere focused on capturing the core energy of the dancers, this year’s Init: unseen delves even deeper into ‘Process Init,’ the movement methodology of Artistic Director Sungyong Kim.
Based on his philosophy that "Dance is a language that cannot be described in words," Sungyong Kim pursues dance as the ‘most truthful means of expression.’ He emphasizes that dance is an art to be expressed with sincerity above all. For him, who embodies what words cannot portray, choreography is a process of searching for what he wants to express in the treasury of new things. The movement research ‘Process Init,’ which he developed with a focus on ‘sense and response,’ further solidifies this process. Artistic inspiration brought to him through ‘Process Init,’ which derives non-formal and innovative movement, is turned into visible forms on stage.
