The Bologna Children's Book Fair is the world's largest children's book fair, participating more than 1,500 publishers and multimedia companies from around 80 countries. Also, it is a venerable book fair celebrating 59thevent in 2022.

The Bologna Illustrators’ Exhibition is the main event of the Bologna Children's Book Fair, a historic exhibition that celebrated its 56th anniversary in 2022. It is giving an opportunity to grow for young talented illustrators around the world to open the gate to achieve success. It is recognized as the world's best illustration exhibition.

The most competitive event in BCBF history

-  In 2022, 3,873 participants from 92 countries sent their works. By renowned international juries, 78 illustrators from 26 countries, only 2% of the entries, were finally selected, and they drew much attention. This was recorded as the most intense competition with the largest number of participants while the exhibition was held for 56 times since 1967.

- The illustrations in the Bologna Illustrations’ Exhibition are not just images but have stories. The unique art world is inspired by very ordinary and personal experiences. While looking through the illustrations, We can find or imagine stories that artists have hidden. We can share happy journeys of 78 stories through small pictures.

An opportunity to meet art trends and discover new talents through illustrations.

 - Every year, more than 3,000 artists from 70 countries in average are challenging this exhibition. Juries who are authorized experts of illustration select 70 to 80 illustrators as the illustrators of the year and provide them opportunities to exhibit their works. It is leading the arttrends and discovering new talents through illustration.

4. Experiencing various picture books with the original illustrations at once.
 

 5. In 2020, all major events were canceled as the world was paralyzed by COVID-19. The Bologna Illustrators’ Exhibition was also canceled for the first time in its 57-year history due to COVID-19. Therefore, the selecting and exhibiting works were done online for three years. Finally, Onsite exhibition in three years attracts a large number of visitors and is running successfully.

 3. 2022 BCBF Visual Identity Artist Section - Solin Sekkur

- The Bologna Children’s Book Fair selects a now illustrator every year to provide an opportunity to create an identity image of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. These images are used on the BCBF website, exhibition venues and all promotional materials for BCBF events.

- The chosen illustrator of 2022 is Solin Sekkur from Mexico City, who was selected at the Bologna Illustrators’ Exhibition in the previous year. The parade of various characters at this special section expresses congratulations on the resumption of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair after the pandemic. 

4. The Nobel Prize of Children Books - Bologna Ragazzi Awards

- Among the picture books published at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair throughout the year, Bologna Ragazzi Awards is given to the best children’s books in each field and is called the Nobel Prize in children’s books.

- In 2022, Bologna Ragazzi Awards was awarded to picture books with excellent graphics and editing among 2,215 books submitted from 62 countries, divided into categories: fiction, nonfiction, opera prima and New Horizons. Comic and Poetry were added as special categories in 2022 and a total of 23 books were finally selected.

5.  Publisher’s Exhibition: Kinderland Bandal

- Artistic Art, Playful Play - The wisdom and imagination that fills our half-moon(Bandal) like hearts: the picture book

- It is a publisher that plays a pioneering role in national picture books.

6. Children’s Program

- A special time to develop the imagination and creativity of dreamers.

- Programs that can stimulate children’s interest and curiosity by learning various paint techniques to understand the basic elements of formation; dots, lines, and planes.

- An educational opportunity where children can express their thoughts freely using the whole body with the paint.
