The change of face

The environmental factors of a country will affect the dietary habits of its members. And the change of the dietary habits will lead to such a change of their faces as that of a man's face during his life. In fact, we can find this in the face of the Korean, which is showing rapid changes in its shape; it gets longer and sharper with a small jaw. As these changes, however, are nothing but those of our looks, not of our own constitutional features, the present faces of the Korean still hold the genetic information to make it possible to presume the looks of our ancestors and to trace back to the origin of the Korean.

The formative process of a nation can be summarized as the initial immigration of a group, the adaptive transformation, the immigration of another group, the matrimony between two groups, and the matrimonial transformation. In this point and comparing the faces of the Korean with those of the neighboring nationals, the inflow channel of the Korean could be divided into three types; the south seashore line, the land route from the north, and the Yellow See from the west. This division is grounded on the fact that the skeletons excavated from all over Korean peninsula. Actually, even in the present faces of the Korean, we can find the regional features.

Pictures of the face of Koreans in 1910s do not just show the faces of the Korean of that time, but also help to trace the historical transition of the Korean face and the inflow channel of the Korean.
The view of a beauty is changing as the face changes. If we could say the standard applied to selecting Miss Korea is the view of the contemporary beauty, we can assume that of the beauty of our ancestors through the picture of beauty drawn in the late Chosun Dynasty. The standard of a beauty is changing by the time and environment of the society.
